Got home from work yesterday to find my front door kicked in. Laptop, camera equipment, TVs, guitars, passports, jewelry etc all gone. This sucks. Here is a C63 AMG for reading my sob story.

That sucks. Don't know what else to say other than "does this really still happen?" Obviously in your case, it still does and that is unfortunate. Hopefully you didn't have any plans on leaving the country anytime soon.

My parents farm got robbed about a year ago. Stole about 20k in tools from my dads workshop. It sucks. It isn't the money it is the sense of security and knowing that some drugged up asshole has all the shit you worked hard for.

and the fact that you don't have access to a tig welder anymore.

That sucks, but unless you were there, and the theft involved violence/threats to you or your family, it wasn't a robbery.

Mainly I'm just being a pedant, but you could also take it as a reminder of perspective - it's only stuff, after all. When you realise that if you and your family had walked in on the scrotes and they'd had a weapon, you'd gladly have given them everything just to get them to go away, it doesn't seem so bad after all - and I speak from experience. If they kicked in the front door, you can tell they were complete idiot criminals, and those are the most dangerous kind.

You have my sympathies, but also my wish that you'll continue to have no more serious problems in your life than the loss of possessions. And I know that's a lot easier to say when they're not your possessions - which is why other people have to say it to you now.

I wasn't sure what you guys (I'm in New Zealand) called this type of thing so robbery seemed pretty universal to me.

Yeah it's all insured and replaceable except for photos from the last couple of weeks I hadn't backed up and sentimental stuff like family letters/old cards/photos etc which seem to have gone too. Also the thought of people in your house taking your shit while you are sitting at work is pretty heartbreaking.

h yeah, the violation is the worst part - whether you're there or not. Psychologically, we're all very invested in the emotional safety of coming home and closing the front door. Having that violated is extremely uncomfortable because however rational about it you might want to be, it's an emotional violation of something very deep-rooted. (Feel free to tell me to fuck off if you want to, by the way. I find I deal with this kind of thing better when I understand why I'm having whatever reaction I'm having, but you're not me.)

D@mn. Sorry to hear. So long as you and the Fam are safe, all is well. Not trying to take away from what you're dealing with, but it could have been worse. There was a story in the news this am about a lady who was robbed last night. She had to lock herself in the bathroom to be safe while the guys ransacked her house.
